Interlard - Sticky - CDR (2009)

Labels: self released
Review by: Gareth L

Heh, this CD-R is called ‘Sticky’ and the front cover is a bunch of branches and logs, clever. Weird name, hand-made packaging, CD-R, minimal information online (before consulting MySpace). So this could be anything. The first track begins with a computerised young girl’s voice which ends with ‘…suddenly I started screaming for no reason’. Very rarely does a CD actually make me jump, but because I had turned up the volume to hear what ‘she’ was saying the noise that followed did just that. If you imagine a Lightning Bolt riff played over and over again for eleven minutes, that’s basically the first track. They have this crazy distortion on their noisier songs, like that nuts bass sound Mortician have. But metal they are not, this is full on noise, especially album highlight ‘Ass to Mouth Resuscitation’ (nice title). The CD does have it’s quieter numbers and these are equally interesting, ‘Crawlspace’ sounding like someone playing a violin underwater and the beginning and end of ‘Collagen’ actually having a foot-tapping beat of sorts. This is available freely from their MySpace site along with other bits so you can have a go if you think you’re hard enough.
