OvO - Croce Via - CD (2008)

Labels: Load
Review by: Alex Deller

Here we gots two Italians making a snarled-up racket that churns up the weirder fringes of rock music for its various sonic experiments. Perhaps three quarters of the thing’s made up of big, slurping art-doom mulch that touches base with bands like the Melvins with its array of constipated gurgles and bottom-feeding, syrup-stringed thrums, while elsewhere the two of ’em flap through a series of clatters, plunks and chirrups for moments of wheedling madness akin to a stripped down and slightly less scatty Melt Banana. Quite where they fit in amongst today’s crop of sludge, no-wave or weirdo grind is anyone’s guess, but then that’s why labels like Load exist in the first place, eh? In any case it’s ok enough, but not exactly the kind of buy-or-die release that’ll bring your tiny world crashing down around you if it doesn’t find its way into your collection.
