Somehow this is the first time Nottingham’s Geriatric Unit and I have crossed paths, but initial impressions are pretty reasonable. Burly, white-knuckled, tuff-sounding hardcore that’s one part ‘Tied Down’ and two parts ‘Kings Of Punk’ is the order of the day, making for a right ornery ol’ racket that many young whippersnappers could learn a lesson from. The riffing’s clean and clutter-free and the cynical, been-around-the-block lyrics delivered in a menacing bellow to ensure that while the likes of ‘The Price’, ‘All Tries Will Fail’ and ‘Storing Up Problems’ won’t have the past masters quivering in their boots there’s still plenty of life in these rabid old dogs yet.
