Never Again - Pressure - 7

Labels: Carry the Weight – Hit Time Records – Worship Records
Review by: Chaz Hewitt

Over the past few years I’ve found myself avoiding straight edge hardcore bands, as a whole load of edge bands seems to lack the balls I feel it needs to still sound urgent and important. I’ve been to gigs over the last few years that are more like frat parties gone wrong than hardcore shows, which has left me feeling jaded at least 12 years too early.

Never Again are different. Gone is the macho, preachy side of things, replacing it with full throttle ragers about the pressures of everyday life, scene politics, and fake diy. The lyrics are decent, never become generic, and the sort of classic hardcore/punk lyrics, that need no explanation at all, and appeal to people who aren’t just straight edge.

Musically, the songs cut between gnarly, (very) fast bits, and awesome half time sections. I guess I’d compare them to cut the shit, and coke bust and other above par edge bands. The six tracks here fly by, and are carried through with sheer intensity, and urgency, that makes these guys stand out.

Some of the best UK hardcore I’ve heard in ages. If you’re into this sort of thing, pick this up, and go see these dudes live. Recommended!
