the Babies - All Things Come to Pass Caroline - 7

Labels: Wild World
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I think there was a momentary internet buzz about this at some point last year when the Vivian Girls were at the peak of their internet darlings status. The Babies feature Cassie from the Vivian Girls, and to me they basically sound like if Real Estate had female vocals. It’s all pedestrian (in a good way), toe-tapping rhythms filtered through a lightly hazed recording. Guitars are strummed, vocals are airy, the music is repetitious, and it gets the job done. There are two songs here, but this kind of music is inherently better suited to an LP, because you’re flipping the blasted thing every three minutes and that’s surely not the point of this Californian style jingle jangle where the Golden Gate Bridge is fogged in by something other than a natural fog. I assume. Here’s a video for you to watch whilst listening to this single: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwMjfWzQQpk.
