About 70 seconds into “Youth And Its Burden” by The Hope Conspiracy, there’s a moment where this listener totally forgets himself and starts thinking that this mega-tight, deadly serious, crunchy style of hardcore makes total sense, and it’s those kinds of moments (albeit a decade after the fact) that The Hunger deal in. Everything is big here; moshtastic, melodic riffs, epic in their minor chord progressions, roared vocals from a guy who probably has the mic cord wrapped round his hand a few times, and some hefty amounts of chug, though not too much. It’s all well paced and executed, and I even like the tastefully monochrome art. Recommended for fans of Hope Con, Damnation AD, Undertow and so on.
