First off introductions are in order. Ben Cook has been making music as a guitarists in prolific Canadian hit makers Fucked Up, while doing Marvelous Darlings, The Bitters and now also Young Governor on the side. The difference being that Young Governor is Ben playing all the instruments (although he has the help of some friends to do the backup vocals here). English Tim brings two somewhat different numbers. The title track on side A has great swirling guitars and a pounding rhythm to back it up as we have been accustomed to from listening to FUs latest stints but adding his own melodic vocals to give it a completely different feel. Side B on the other hand is a little faster and more aggressive song but still within the realm of power-pop goodness. All in all this is a pretty impressive slab of wax with two great songs, and while this is being written Young Governor is planning to release something like a dozen 7″s on different labels so I’m sure there will be no drought concerning more awesome music from Ben Cook in the years to come. Pick this up while you can.
