Labels: Captured Tracks
Review by: Andy Malcolm
Here’s another solid one on Captured Tracks. It’s nice to see that label is perhaps moving more towards putting out LPs this year, but they certainly have been on a run of decent sevens. Wild Nothing have a two song single on offer here (and I think another is out already), the first of the two tracks for me is “Summer Holiday” which is poppy shoegaze not a million miles from the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. So you get the requisite muffled vocals and guitar, stumbling along in a daze of repitition. They’ve got the sound down smartly, and it’s an enjoyable tangle of summer-y guitars and boy / girl vocals. Flip it for the trendy electro kissed dream-pop of “Vultures Like Lovers”, shimmering into earshot a la Washed Out and others of that ilk. A delightful sound which I think trumps the A-side, and one that would only be better suited to a longer format. Hopefully Captured Tracks and Wild Nothing can fill that void for us at some point in 2010.
