Evariste Galois - s/t demo - Tape (2010)

Labels: Internationale
Review by: Chaz Hewitt

Evariste Galois is a mathematician from the nineteenth century. Or in this case an indie/emo rock band from Cardiff.

The guys cite bands like Jawbreaker and Garden Variety as influences and you can definitely hear that come through. But, there’s definitely some more straight-up emo influences here; some bits even make me think of braid for some weird reason. On the third track they drop a revolution summer / Dischord-esque number, complete with a riff that reminds me of “˜Furniture’ by Fugazi, and kind of makes me want to dance and fist-pump at the same time.

Comes in a sweet little fold-up box, with a picture of Evariste himself on, as well as a Wikipedia-esque profile of the guy; mind-boggling equations and all!

Four really decent tunes. You feel some bits are lost in the recording somewhere, but I’m stoked to see these guys play live in the summer, and this does what all decent demos should in leaving you wanting to hear more.
