Rubicks - Giddy Up - CD (2010)

Labels: Sharp Attack Records
Review by: Ted Reynolds

If I hadn’t read the press release before I listened to this, I might have been more inclined to give it a chance, but when I’m told a band have a ‘cool factor’, and that they live in fucking Shoreditch, in a ‘studio/art gallery’, then I find it very difficult to come to a democratic decision. The music is still turgid nonsense, and at best weak electro. I like the b side better than the a side though, there’s a good effect near the end that sounds like a cat purring through a french horn. I’d have swapped them about, but I guess Valentino didn’t want that one for their fashion campaign like they did the first song (the campaign features Ernest Hemingway’s daughter! Wowser – and anyway, what does being in a campaign mean? Is it being on a advert, or just being played while some cock walks down a cat walk?). Average to Poor, and maybe you should write your own press releases, I’m sure you probably aren’t the pricks this makes you out to be.
