the Sleepies - s/t - CD (2010)

Labels: Doom Songs
Review by: Chaz Hewitt

I like Sleepies before I’ve heard a second of their music. The hand written promo sheet that came with this informs me that this band endorse house shows and imaginary band feuds, whilst having no time for machismo or the last episode of Battlestar Galactica. Heck yes.

This is sometimes noisy, sometimes poppy garage rock. The noisier songs remind me of Wives, and the poppier numbers No Age, so these guys influences are relatively clear I think. But instead of spending ages trying to emulate the aforementioned bands to the Nth degree, it sounds more like they’re just having fun rocking out.

The first song “˜Get Fucked’ is a great opener; the noisier side of things, which rumbles and buzzes along with some drunk vocals on top for maximum effect! Things calm down every now and then, and they show they’re not afraid to keep things simple and write a decent tune every now and then (see Hypochondriac Blues, Good Hunting)”¦.

Good work guys.
