Gruff punk. Love it or loathe it. Like it or lump it. Use it as a helpful description”¦or
bemoan its inadequacy as one. Yet readers will by and large know well what
it signifies, and likewise will know whether or not they are interested. There is
nothing outstanding enough about this offering from The Holy Mess to make it
recommendable; likewise, there is nothing so wrong with it as to necessitate any
criticism. “Soulful Punk Tune About a Working Class Dreamer’ carries the faint
whiff of Against Me! circa Reinventing Axl Rose, and is the more exciting of the two
moderately catchy tracks on offer here. Pop will eat itself they say, and punk appears
adept at self-cannibalisation too.
