Defiance Ohio - Midwestern Minutes - CD (2010)

Labels: No Idea Records
Review by: Chaz Hewitt

Defiance, Ohio seem to split opinion quite a bit. I’ve always liked them, but never really dug any of their albums as a whole. UNTIL NOW! I’ve been listening to this pretty solidly over the last month, and been enjoying it more and more each time.

They’ve slowed everything down a bit on this album, and overall its their poppiest record yet. In fact, most the songs on here are just pretty great pop songs. “˜Hairpool’, in particular is pure gold. Simple songs about towns and people I will never visit or meet, but somehow can relate to, performed with a tonne of heart. It’s Defiance, Ohio! I guess you know if you like them by now. But don’t let the endless shitty bands playing gruff acoustic punk put you off checking this album out.

It’s proved to be a pretty good autumn record so I apologise that I’ve written this at the beginning of winter. My bad I guess.
