Virulence - If This Isn't A Dream 1985-1989 - CD (2010)

Like many of you, I quite like a bit of Black Flag. As an extension of this fancy, I also have plenty of time for those, like Bl’ast! and CCM, who took the baton and ran with it. Virulence were definitely in the same camp but considerably further on down the food chain, piling together awkward, irregular riffing, aggrieved hollers and blunt-force drumwork in an attempt to simultaneously batter and confuse. This release compiles the eight tracks from their “If This Isn’t A Dream” LP along with live tracks, demo cuts and a Void cover, all of which serves as a sturdy enough “” if at times over-laboured “” late 80s time capsule as well as an insight into what the Fu Manchu guys were up to before 70s rock and weed won out.
