Mopey Mumble-Mouse - I am Happy Being Nothing - CD (2010)

Labels: self released
Review by: David Giles

Okay, before I even put the CD in I want to say that this is probably the single worst band name I have ever came across in my life. After 20 years of surviving through the cesspit of shite mosher bands: the whole nu-metal hype phase, boring metalcore with shitty chauvinist names, screamo (iwhaciyy) etc., I can say with certainty that I’ve never came across a name as bad as Mopey Mumble-Mouse. I despair.

If I had a second chance, I wouldn’t open the CD insert before I hit play either. Here are the lyrics to the first song: “œhot dogs and kraft dinner / superfries and frozen burgers / wonderbread and peanut butter / cornflakes with hot tapwater / fattening up our tapeworms x4″. How edgy.
This is scrappy, weirdo quavering punk that sounds like Placebo playing Ramones covers by ear or something. I do think there is a lot of exciting “˜punk’ coming out of the US just now and I do think its worth checking out, but this seriously doesn’t factor into that. Maybe parallels can be drawn to Love Triangle but I think that’s a beast of a stretch to be honest. On their website it has a review from MRR which genuinely namedrops both Antioch Arrow and The Crucifucks. Maybe I’m insane.
