For some reason I was expecting a dose of modern epi-crust from this one, but while Murderess certainly aren’t averse to threading things through with the occasional melodic twiddle or bashing the odd octave things are thankfully far more direct and to the point, coming across like a less refined version of ‘Plot Sickens’-era HHiG splashed with a dash of dank, metallic Amebix-ish gloom. While that’s all well and good the muffled n’ murky nature of proceedings “” whether aesthetic or unintentional “” puts a slight dampener on proceedings, the riproaring solos and thundersome riffs having just about enough strength to push their way angrily through the cotton wool production while leaving the drums and lung-scraping female vocals lagging some way behind. A shame indeed, but solid enough nevertheless.
