Seemingly hellbent on confusing at least half of what’d otherwise be a reasonably secure fanbase, these guys have concocted one strange old bugger of an album. Y’see, while at first glance things seem to be heading blearily down the munchie-strewn Electric Wizard / Ramesses pathway things are soon turned rudely on their head, those slow-motion pummelings metamorphosing without warning into the jagged, panicky sounds of Keelhaul or Knut for freakish bouts of convoluted intensity. As if these two split personalities weren’t quite enough, you also get some elegiac Morgion passages placed lovingly into the fray and a series of eerie ‘Call Of Ktulu’ flights of clean-picked fancy to boot, all while Dorando Hodous’ sullen roars make guest appearances as if to crash the party of an otherwise instrumental record that’s not an easy listen by any stretch, but will ultimately prove an enlightening one for those that stick it out.
