I’ve had this so long that I can’t remember if we got sent it for review or if I bought it. Oh wait, I bought it. Oh well. It’s good, so here’s a review. Title track “Splendid Living” is resplendent in it’s pogoing Buzzcocksian pop, all hyperactive and nervy, hopping from foot to foot, desperate for a piss but some other bastard stole the cubicle and who likes pissing next to someone else anyway. It probably lasts about 2 and a bit minutes, but whilst it’s there it grabs the attention and leaves me pleased. Bounce it over for “Didn’t Die”, which is less pop and more punk. The recording is sloppy and fits the music, but the general feel of this leans towards tribute more than the a-side. “Orgasms in Heaven” (omg) also doesn’t quite manage to bring the pop hooks of the a-side, it’s 2 minutes of simple punk rock riffing and off-key singing. Features the prime lyric “gonna wank myself to heaven”, can’t knock that one. Solid seven all told. One barnstormer, one goodie, one hohum.
