Review by: David Giles

Admittedly I wasn’t too optimistic about this EP. The big copy-and-paste description for this band is “garage rock Rudimentary Peni” and the only thing less up my street than garage rock is RP. Regardless, it came recommended so I thought I’d put my money where my mouth is and give it a spin. Side A is really nice. It has the plodding, mid-tempo dirge of Bone Awl and soundalikes, the goth gloom of Sixx’s ‘Sister Devil’, and the garbage/hardcore inflections of Crazy Spirit or similar Toxic State release-ees. Genuinely pretty good. Perhaps one of the better examples of ‘garage’ anything I’ve heard lately. A good listen, although hardly mind-blowing; I can think of a ton of bands you could file this amongst. If you were into this kind of garagey, scrappo, weirdo seven inch in 2010, definitely pick this one up for the A. The B-Side, on the other hand, is an instrumental that left me totally wanting. I’ll never spin it again. Drum-heavy, distortion ringing out, going nowhere. The only upside of the B is that it allows me to break out my trademark ‘garage punk’ remark: do the band even give a shit?
