La Quiete - Tenpeun `01-`05 - CD (2009)

Labels: Sons Of Vesta
Review by: Graeme Cunningham

This CD has been out for a while, its a Euro issue of the one they did on Robotic Empire for going to the states. It collects all the early vinyl releases together in once place.

It’d been a while since I listened to them. In all honesty, this is not the best way to do it. Cramped together in one place, it does start to sound a bit samey. If you’re new to La Quiete, then I’d suggest 2004’s “La fine non è la fine” as a better starting point, by which time they’d pretty much perfected their own take on screamo.

Of the stuff here, my personal favourite is the material from the split with Catena Collapse, which includes “*” distilling everything that makes them so great into a minute and a half of frantic vitality.

Despite the misgivings that I express above about variety, I should point out that La Quiete are really one of the finest in the game as far as euro screamo goes. If you’re new to the genre consider these boys Sonny Liston style heavyweights and essential listening.
