Street Eaters - Severance Package - Polluted Waters - 7

Labels: Dead Broke Rekerds – Dirt Cult – Lost Cat
Review by: Andy Malcolm

A pair of songs apiece here from punk bands treading different paths. Street Eaters notch it up again after a slightly plain 7″ which I reviewed here relatively recently. “Frigid Digits” has plenty of essential urgency, Megan and John trade vocals and battle it out with bass and drum to get to the end of the song first. Then they drag things in the opposite direction on the meandering “Runaway” which dispense with the drumming, leaving Megan’s vocals and bass to feel a touch isolated. I can appreciate that they’re trying out different things here but Street Eaters are definitely at their best when going full bore I reckon.

Severance Package sport folk from Black Fork and rock out mightily in a smart, straight ahead fashion. There is nothing too out of the ordinary about their music, and the sound a little basic when sat next to Street Eaters but there is no doubting the fact that they can pen a quality punk rock song. Both their efforts have the drive and energy to keep me engaged for the duration. Good stuff.
