This has been out for quite some time now, but I guess Ash from Sweat sold no copies as it came in for review anyway. Green Fuse is a band I have had a lot of time for ever since their first demo tape. That tape was reviewed in 2004, and this was out in 2009, so it shows a band that has evolved and tightened up. That demo was a real shambles, which was what endeared it to me. This 10″ shows off 4 songs that are recorded properly yet still have a live flavour to things which so often is a benefit in the DIY emo ballpark. The music utilises melodic mathier rhythms (in the sense of something like early Party of Helicopters or North of America), with two vocalists, one deep and booming, one high pitched and urgent, although sometimes one of them reminds me of Chris Broach. For a more recent comparison you could look to Bird Calls who are not entirely dissimilar, although the songs are more lengthier here and perhaps more meandering. It’s good stuff and it’s nice to have a proper Green Fuse recording of decent length. I would guess the band have long since stopped doing things, but you never know. Also of note is the usual attention to detail that AFS have paid the packaging which is pretty great.
