These guys have been quite sneaky. Somehow they know I’m a science-fiction reading metal fan (form an orderly queue ladies), and everything from the artwork to the lyrics screams out references to Blade Runner, Alien, cyberpunk and a general pessimism of where humanity is headed. That’s cool. The music is in stark contrast to the overarching theme however, as it’s resolutely stuck in the chug-metal present. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the whole thing has rollicking, catchy riffs, but while the likes of Voivod are cited as an influence, I don’t think they’ve necessarily nailed that kind of magical, otherworldly atmosphere. The tone comes off as something a bit throwaway and daft, but it’s a lot of fun still.
