Hmm, the intro to “Snow Party” is a smidgeon similar to Jawbreaker’s “Boxcar”. Coincidence? I’ll let you make the call, it’s on that bandcamp thing down here. The rest of the song however sounds nothing like Jawbreaker, as Broadcaster power through a solid indie rocker that has the good sense to call it quits under 3 minutes. Broadcaster know the value of getting in, doing the job and getting out again, none of these songs out-stay their welcome, and all follow a pleasing mid-period Superchunk bent, focusing mostly on making catchy tunes with rocking guitars. Current contemporaries would be bands such as Cheap Girls. Just that kind of college-ey indie rock that is wildly out of fashion but still appeals to a few folk. Mostly dudes with beards and beer bellies. It’s comfortable, familiar, like a well worn pair of All-Stars – nothing at all complicated going on here, nothing weird, just straight ahead indie rock for indie rockers. If that’s you, you’ll dig it. If it ain’t, you won’t.
