Two different kinds of ugly here on this split release, things kicking off with Killer who offer us a handful of mangled chords and a couple of minutes’ worth of blurred, burbling noise-rock with gargled distorto-vox splattered over the top. It is, at best, ok while it lasts (and that, for the record, is fairly faint praise as the thing’s over in no time flat) but since there’ve been dozens of bands making a better fist of the whole depraved Brainbombs pummel in recent times there’s no real reason to go out of your way to check their track out.
Japanische Kampfhörspiel, by contrast, play a weird brand of scatty, grindish thing that starts with looming minor key shifts and sporadic Crom-Techian widdles before speeding up and diving headfirst into some sort of daft, low-rent grind opera type affair. Chucking together the likes of Cephalic Carnage, Macabre and Mr Bungle sounds like a recipe for disaster and, truth be told, it is, the best that can be said being that at least the band are trying something different, no matter how potty and irreverent it might be.
