It’s 4 AM and I’ve been awake for two hours. I’ve given up on getting back to sleep and am gonna go get ready for work in a minute, might as well start early. Fortunately I have just discovered Behzad Mehrnoosh and am being suitably blown away right now. I don’t follow much post rock these days but it seems that people are still coming up with good jawns, you just have to know where to look. I stumbled across the band via a music blog but I forget which one else I’d cite it.
Behzad Mehrnoosh remind me a bit of Once We Were except they seem to have more a more typical Explosions In The Sky feel to them. A little bit Gregor Samsa too except there aren’t really any major build ups and climaxes. That’s a good thing by the way as it what led to too many bands becoming one trick ponies. The pleasant melody of the guitars is often accompanied by beautifully soothing vocals, the sort of thing I could just put on, lie back, and be immersed. It treads an interesting line, with moments of repetitive minimalism escalating flawlessly into ordered complexity and back again. ‘Systemet’ is an absolute stunner, starting off semi pop-like before just driving into pure melody. I’m trying to figure out if this project is the work of just one guy, surely not?! The album can be downloaded for free along with the band’s previous two albums (there are some CDs floating around too). I’ll be checking them out too because this is gold.
