You know, it honestly doesn’t surprise me that in this day and age of screamo being a bit shitty, that we have to rely on a band that has guys who played in Max Colby and Sleepytime Trio to come along and make a livewire 7″ of downright awesome, screamy emo. This is a fucking beauty. Regents groove. Man, they groove so good. At least when they are not flying along at a million miles an hour. This is so spot on, that I couldn’t have requested they come up with anything better than this. The vocals mix up shrill yelling and hoarse screaming, whilst the guitars sound exactly like what you’d expect a hardcore band featuring these dudes would sound like. This is Sleepytime Trio reborn in 2011. What the fuck is going on? I hope Regents make a 25 minute long 12″ that is six songs long and grooves like a bastard, I want to hear that record right now. It also is a glorious thing to know that not everyone who was playing this kind of music 15+ years ago has completely abandoned it, and still loves hardcore enough to make a record as frighteningly good as this. They should do a split 10″ with Ampere, it could be called “HEY SHITTY BANDS!”. In fact, if you are in an emo / hardcore band, stop whatever you are doing right now and listen to this record. The next time you do a recording, try and be this good. Remember to groove – the singular lesson that all emo bands need to take to heart. I wish you well. Outside of that, this 7″ is fucking A+.
