House of John Player - Toddlers - split - 7

Labels: Double Dot Dash
Review by: Chaz Hewitt

House of John Player is on the a side of this and is one guy dealing in poppy, looped indie stuff. Brings to mind comparisons to stuff like Panda Bear and Atlas Sound, but despite those influences coming through pretty clearly these two songs stand up really well and do a decent job at rivaling the aforementioned influences. Definitely one to check out if you’re into your loops and/or weird indie rock.

The b side belongs to Toddlers which is a different beast entirely. Bass, drums and muddy vocals playing a littered little number of Krautrock-y noise-rock dirges. This rules. Don’t usually find myself liking this sort of thing but there’s some awesome melody between the noisy bits of things and they never let things get too out of control; subtlety is the key here and Toddlers nail it.

Really nice little split of two bands doing weird stuff (well) that’s taken me far too long to review (sorry to all involved).
