Pang - Garden of Menace - CD (2010)

Labels: Daddy Tank Records
Review by: Captain Fidanza

On the label website, this release is described as “œone of the best electronica albums ever created” a claim so ridiculously bold it automatically made me root for Pang in a way I’d never rooted for those little bubble popping fellows before.

Unfortunately, about three tracks in I’m already comparing that quote from the website to other examples of ridiculous hype which people have employed in various attempts to foist their sub-standard product upon me. Some examples:

“œThe funniest film ever made” – some Twat from the Sun newspaper talking about “œLock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.”

“œThe Funniest Man Alive” – some pouch advertising Jackie Mason’s current show at the Wyndham’s Theatre.

“œBest slasher film, ever” – film reviewer (and cock) Christopher Tookey talking about Scream 2 in 1997.

So there we are and lest we forget, as Public Enemy pointed out sometime ago…

…false media,
We don’t need it do we?
It’s fake that’s what it be to ya; dig me ?
Don’t believe the hype.

So I’ll leave it up to you to decide if this is indeed “œone of the best electronica albums ever created” although I roundly applaud Pang for creating a densely-layered ambient album which at times brought to mind the work of Tranquility Bass.
