Waxahatchee - American Weekend - CD (2012)

Labels: Don Giovanni
Review by: Kimmi

So , I really wasn’t expecting this album to be all that great. You know when you hear about how
awesome something is and everyone hypes it up then you take a listen for yourself and you aren’t all
that impressed? That’s how I thought I was going to feel about American Weekend. Well, I was wrong.
This record deserves every bit of hype and praise it receives.

With so much honesty and emotion, you feel every word that is said-every feeling that is expressed.
Honestly, it isn’t an album where you can pop in and play anytime because of the emotional intake. But
it is an album where every time you do listen to it you will value the depth of the lyrics along with the
choice of instrument.

Grass Stain is definitely my personal favorite on the album. The song sounds simple, but take a deeper
listen and you will find that the lyrics are so complex. The raspy vocals in the title track is a prime
example of how Katie makes you feel what she is feeling. This is an early contender for best record of
the year.
