Labels: Clue #2
Review by: Oli Saunders
First there was All Through A Life, then Damages, and now Mouse Ear. Andrew and co are doing their best to keep the spirit of Canadian emo alive. Yet another small group of people playing out of fashion music that they (and I) love; it’s what keeps my faith in music going sometimes.
The vocals on this 7” are far too hoarse to compare it strongly with Shotmaker, despite the band name; the instruments too don’t sound like they are trying to copy either. But this still falls in the mid 90s hardcore bracket for sure, maybe more alongside the likes of Benchmark and Cable, and Damages too. Fast and furious, it gets a little samey at times but it’s all part of the relentless nature which is quite astonishing. The infrequent moments where things slow down slightly lets the listener take a short break, but we soon return to the harshness. There is talk of the band making over to the UK and this sort of sound was made for live gigs.
