Shang-A-Lang - Waiting for the End - 7

Labels: Dead Broke Rekerds – Dirt Cult – Drunken Sailor – Fast Crowd Records – Let’s Pretend – No Breaks – Silver Sprocket
Review by: Bob Alderdice

Shang-a-lang play sloppy, yet melodic, pop-punk which will appeal to fans of IRON CHIC, TURKISH TECHNO, TOO MANY DAVES and the like.
After a fairly prolific existence, including a shed-load of splits, EPs and and LP, it seems they have finally
decided to call it a day. This then, waiting for the end, is their swansong.
You should probably buy this record anyway, if not for the music, then for the fact that it has been put out by seven(!) pretty cool labels, not
least of which being the UK’s own Drunken Sailor (who have got some pretty cool things in the pipeline I see). Also, it has some neat Mitch Clem
artwork, so that’s a bonus.
Musically, this 7″ is fairly consistent with Shang-a-lang’s previous output. The band deliver five songs of lo-fi, messy punk rock with the closing track aptly being the strongest. This is a shame because it means I can’t use any scathingly critical yet witty comments like “Waiting for
the end…I certainly was!” or “Sadly, the end didn’t come soon enough!”. Fnar Fnar.
