25 Rifles - History of Flags - 7

Labels: Snappy Little Numbers
Review by: Andy Malcolm

This is one of the best sevens I have heard lately, with 25 Rifles gifting us some rough vocalled melodic punk that clearly digs a bit of Husker Du, yet the raggedy, lo-fi nature also means that I get to compare it to the Hated, which is nice. Also: Moving Targets. It kicks off with the killer “œEpisode” which tumbles away into two vocalists yelling and wailing at the end, very much in the Hated fashion, before crashing straight into the poppier “œSummer Fades”, with it’s sweet chorus. I like this a lot, initially I thought this was one of the weaker songs on here, but the guitars crash all around is addictive, the song simply doesn’t know how to slow down, I guess they just hit the buffers at the end or something. You get a couple more songs on the other side, “œAll Else Fails” is a rather direct take on Husker Du, no complaints there, and final track “œHistory of Flags” pretty much just ties everything together. Not a lot more to add here, this is just cracking, exciting punk rock played in a way that gets me all thrilled. I hope these guys do an LP.
