Labels: No Idea
Review by: Andy Malcolm
I love that No Idea ended up putting these 2 bands that are at odds with the rest of their current roster on the same record. I also love that this is such a good release. Although both bands are better disposed to producing a full length where they can let their songs meander and create a fuller atmosphere, they have each both totally nailed the song they contribute. Shores deliver “Weak Trees” which is a perfect example of their meandering indie rock, sounding like Boilermaker crossed with the New Year. Whilst I enjoyed their recent LP, I didn’t even giving it as many plays as “Coup De Grace”, but listening to this right now makes me want to go back and listen again, and pretend it’s Autumn, which wouldn’t be too hard, given the recent weather.
Creepoid’s LP “Horse Heaven” is a recent No Idea highlight, and “Golden String” is something that would have fit perfectly on there, and perhaps even been a standout. The band is connected to the G, who you may or may not recall, but is substantially different. This effort is a slowed down slice of melancholy, reminding me a bit of when Gun Outfit get slow and grungey. This is entirely the kind of music that I can get behind, and a good taster for those who want to check them out. If you like this, there is no way you won’t be into the LP.
