This is a four song EP by Sydney rockers Hacks, though due to their drawn out style of play it still clocks in at 30 minutes. ‘Traum Arbeiter’ kicks things off, with semi-noise rock vibes breaking out at fast pace. I thought this might be the main constituent of the band but three minutes in they slow things down and wander off into psychedelic territory, like a guitar based Odd Clouds. It’s pedal mania out there, and I must say it feels very much like the end to a record rather than the first track! ‘Kicks Iron’ returns us to noise-rock with a high experimental factor. The third track ‘Between Hawk and Buzzard’ finally gets some vocals going and is my favourite. The vocals are repetitive and quite minimal, which works really well. I get a slight My Disco feel. The fourth and final track has the same sort of the structure to the third, though via the guitar tone and vocals sounds a fair amount like a more complex Arab On Radar. I like how different every song is on this record, with it all being tied together by an underlying noise rock theme; though I’d personally prefer to see them focus a definitive sound from now on, based around the latter two tracks. As always with tenzenmen releases, this is available to stream for free on Bandcamp.
