This band is a 2-piece and they hail from Ohio. They quote bands like Quicksand and Seaweed as influences and this is a positive start for me. The opening song “Tidal Wave” is a rocky, pop song that sounds like it could have been written with “Rocky VII” in mind. It must be time for Rocky’s grandson to lead the movie and this track could be a frontrunner for the end credits. That said, seeing as the lyrics refer to a tidal wave it’s perhaps more suited to a Jaws remake or a sequel for Blue Crush. It’s riddled with clichés and messages about the underdog rising up. I cannot really say anything positive about this song. It really wouldn’t be out of place on such a soundtrack though and perhaps that is where their appeal lies. The second and third tracks are an improvement. However, they too are littered with clichés. These are just some from the third track, “Worlds Collide”: “pulled apart at the seam, “believe in the moment”, “a veil over your eyes”…take your pick. The 2 songs themselves are a step up from the opener though. They lower the tone again at the end with an overly slick Nirvana cover to finish the EP.Â
On a side note, the singer is wearing a Current t-shirt in the press photo. I am assuming he got it from Top Shop in a BOGOF deal with a Ramones t-shirt as he couldn’t decide between that one and the Guns N Roses one.
