This is some gentle, unpretentious indie rock that doesn’t really set out to do anything radical nor new, just deliver a few songs of pleasant guitar music, with a few post-rock guitar effects scattered around here and there, and some folk / country leanings. Unfortunately, that does kind of mean they end up sounding a bit like Coldplay when the vocalist gets bombastic and enthusiastic on tracks like “New Underground”. Fortunately, at least half of the rest of the EP is slower and more listenable than that throw away comparison would suggest. The band is from Chicago, and they apparently roped in Archer Prewitt to produce a couple of songs for them. Not that these songs sound dramatically different from the others, as the whole thing is generally well made and fits the sound they seem to be going for. Overall, this is not particularly notable, but not particularly offensive either. Just unlikely to have floated the boat of anyone who spews words for this website. Vital review, eh? I do like the cover depicting a kid levitating a vehicle though.
