Callous - Mother / Sister - 7

Labels: Malokul
Review by: Kunal Nandi

I am loving this little slab of doomy, gloomy, stoned-out hardcore. “Mother” picks out a simple but catchily plaintive riff before the world comes crashing in with alternating yelled and guttural vocals. It then stick shifts into a chaotic, collapsed powerviolent prolapse and ends on a bang, not a whimper. “Sister” blasts off with a totally rocking stoner roller before that too steps it down a notch into dark, churning territory that stops and starts and herks and jerks most satisfactorily. A great start from a band taking cues from both the doom and thrash scenes and making a killer blend that’s well on the way to something all their own.
