Labels: self released

If you play Quiet Steps’ three releases back to back then it is quite easy to believe that actually they are from three separate bands. The first record, a CD on Yellow Ghost, is quite intense and slightly over the top emo, that sounds similar to their contemporaries of the time such as Quebec. The band’s second album, Think Aloud, is a much longer affair which draws comparisons with Sinaloa. For this third release, the band have switched again, adopting a much mellower approach. Bordering on indie rock, they now hint at Meneguar, a more chirpy Cars Get Crushed and latter day Life At these Speeds.
Flowing beatifully over its eight track length, the first song ‘Introduction’ sets the tone for the album’; a short but rocking track. The title track is a standout, with a great grooving bass alongside some neat guitar riffs. In fact, the album seems to get better as it progresses. ‘Fire / Water’ is excellent, as is ‘Accept Decline’, before things round off. With many Aussie bands of similar type having dissapeared in recent years it’s great to see Quiet Steps still flying the flag. Overall a very solid record; currently this is a download only release.
