Robot Company are an indie band from Birmingham. There are five tracks on this debut EP. The opening track is a short one with wistful vocals over a lone guitar. This one runs straight into a rockier indie track. The aptly named “Stop Staring At Yr Fucking Shoes” is a bit more swirly and mid-paced with a dancey beat. As the title suggests, there is a slight shoegaze influence on this one but not enough to keep it interesting for me. “Very Expensive” is a bit sluggish and bores me a bit – there is also an unnecessary guitar solo halfway through. There are some odd effects on the guitars on a couple of the tracks too. At times they remind me of early 90s indie bands that I used to go and see at the Marquee on Charing Cross Road when I was a teenager. We would go along as it used to be £2 on the door and we would take the chance that the band would be any good. We didn’t find any of our favourite bands in this way though. The first song is alright – the rest is a little bland for me.
