Hmm, not sure about this one. This is pretty ‘trendy’ modern hardcore / screamo crossover and reminds me a bit too much of all those bands like Touche Amore, especially in the vocals, which have the whole ‘whiny-and-packed-with-emotion-but-you-can-tell-he-doesn’t-mean-it kinda vibe to them. Musically It’s pretty all over the place and lacks cohesion. They go from mid paced emotional parts, to chuggy yet melodic riffs, to blastbeats, to (the worst of thewm all) riffs with that post rock delay pedal, which really get on my nerves 95% of the time. It all gives off the impression that they’re not 100% sure of what they want to sound like and gives the whole thing a meandering quality, as it just seems to go on and on, to no real end product. The drums are the worst bit though, as they sound totally muted, making them sound like some shitty nu metal band.
The lyrics deal with depression and his faults as a person. Lyrics like this seem to part and parcel for this sort of stuff. They are super personal, but It’s hard to be moved by them. When you read them, you just end up feeling a little bit sorry for the guy, whereas if you read dystopia lyrics about depression, they get you hyped up or super bummed out, so they just don’t provoke the same kind of emotional response I guess.
So, It’s not like this is the worst record ever, It’s just it falls a bit flat to these ears and fails to do anything to stop it from getting lost in the current of hundreds of other bands doing this stuff right now.
