Bangers take the first side of this split and, admittedly, I am quite partial to a bit of Bangers so was expecting to like this. They are particularly consistent in their brand of gruff punk and these two tracks are unsurprisingly both good. They may not be the best songs they have written but they set high standards. The first song is a bolshy, raucous number that is particularly up to scratch. Both tracks were recorded live. What-A-Nights come from Japan and take the B side. They cover similar ground in that they play melodic punk too – the vocals are a bit lighter than Bangers. Going by the song title I thought the second song was going to be a Ramones cover but was relieved when it wasn’t. Pretty good stuff – fast, flailing guitars and melodic vocals. Certainly worth picking up if you already like Bangers and it’s a nice introduction to What-A-Nights.
