I found this one down the back of the bookshelf whilst moving house. It’s kind of old now but this is a good un so it’d be a shame for it to go unremarked upon. Thinking Machines ply a form of outmoded 1990s post-hardcore, the sort normally played by power trios. Thinking Machines have two guys on guitar though, the cheats. It slots in neatly alongside bands like Traindodge, Giants Chair and Jawbox, and in 2012 they should be playing shows with Pswingset. The tracks tend to be drawn out and slightly mathematically inclined, yet with enough song writing proficiency to ensure that things don’t descend into chin stroking tedium. There is plenty of groove and drive, and it’s a bit of a shame that this languished behind a wooden object in my house for so long. I understand that they have a new album out now, or very soon, so if you find yourself enjoying this you’ll have even more material to get yourself familiarised with.
