From the still-steaming remains of Diet Pills rises Disability (who are not a d-beat band by the way). Foregoing the downtuned dirge-a-thons that constituted the bulk of the former’s music, Disability stride forth in a much more upfront, math-rocking style, though the weirdo riffing and sense of humour still preside. Abrupt tempo switches and a triple-vocal attack will confuse the cursory first-time listener, but persevere and the subtle catchiness will really grab you by the balls. There’s a satisfying Karp-esque burly crunch to it and there’s an interesting interplay between the rock-solid tightness of this trio and the deranged, wayward song structures. A great start.
