No Action - Tangle - split - 7

Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm

More Aussie goodness here! Tangle is a new one on me, and they kick out a couple of twisty turny, emo / post punk barnburners. This is somewhere between Little Lungs and maybe the Lazarus Plot or something like that. Second song “œTo Live and Die” has some super pretty bits that slow down wonderfully and twinkle moodily, and Lena’s vocals are great. I think this band may have already split up or something? If so, that’s a terrible shame and I hope they go on to do other projects.

No Action provide a bit of a contrast, their side is a lot noisier and more straight up rocking in a neato Husker Du meets the Promise Ring kind of way (I guess that means they sound a bit like the Hated). The vocals are buried in the delightfully warm and comforting sound, with the guitars swirling around to great effect. This is pretty much the dream indie rock sound for me, a fusion of melancholy, hefty guitars and supreme melody. Love it when bands sound like this, it’s an absolute delight. Their single song fills the side and you’re going to want to play it back straight away.

They only made 150 of these, and that suggests that people just aren’t interested in buying records of bands that sound like this any more. Which is a shame. Super grateful I got sent one. Both sides are pretty special. Sorry the review took a while.
