Great Apes - Know Your Saints - split - 7

Labels: Say 10 Records
Review by: MH

This is a new split record with Great Apes on the A side who I have reviewed twice before on here so this is me searching desperately for some new adjectives to describe them. They are back with two solid and driven punk tracks of a gruff nature. They are all power chords and driving melodies with an underlying poppiness. “Class(war) Room” finds them in an angry mood. These tracks are up to the standard of their previous output so if you like them definitely check this out and, either way, for anyone new to them, these two tracks are a good indicator as to the band’s sound. Oakland’s Know Your Saints have an in-depth knowledge of the career appearances, goals scored and transfer fees of the likes of Matthew Le Tissier, Francis Benali and Claus Lundekvam and could tell you Peter Shilton’s date of birth as well as Ken Monkou’s shoe size. They are cut from a similar cloth to Great Apes but only have very minor levels of gruffage. They also dish up two songs. Judging by these two songs I would be surprised if they are averse to a bit of The Lawrence Arms, and Hot Water Music are clearly an influence too. The second song is a little more gritty and angry. They are pretty comfortable in their sound and there are a number of other releases on their Bandcamp page if you like these two songs. Pretty good.
