Chances are you might know Quattro Stagioni because (a) they shared a dinky lil split 5″ with Iron Long and/or (b) their name always reminds you of pizza. Besides these two facts I was admittedly none too familiar, so enter that handy if arduous atrocity: the grindcore discography. Compiled here for your aural delight are some 58 fucking songs from their LP, 7″ on 625, the aforementioned split 5″, demo tracks and a bunch of live recordings that you will never, ever listen to. At their best (the first batch of tracks, culled from the album) things sound like a lower-rent Discordance Axis, all heartstopping time changes, frantic guitar blasts, harpy shrieks and that drum noise that sounds like someone is hitting a half-filled jar of mayonnaise with a thin piece of copper pipe. After these, things devolve into blearier, less-defined clobberings before petering off into live cuts of songs you’ve heard already in more palatable form. Basically it’s good when it’s good and eminently skippable when it’s not so hot, so while this discog is good in terms of numbers you might be better off picking up the LP on its own by way of a brief, brutal taster as to what these German speed freaks were all about.
