This is a very neat five tracker from New Orleans by a trio channelling 90s indie rock bands like Dinosaur Jr. Fuzzy, discordant guitars with a bit of drive and kick to them. The vocals are muffled and nicely low in the mix too. The thick, sludgy guitar sound displayed on the likes of opener “Sleeping Call” is great and really has me hooked from the first few bars. The melodic riffing only adds to this feeling. This sounds like it could have been recorded in 1991 and that’s a good thing. They are comfortable at pace but also when slowing things down and teetering. Closing track “Thick Distance” might be the clincher for me. I think this track really highlights them at their best – excelling both during its plodding bass and drums intro and again when it hurtles off at breakneck speed with a blistering guitar sound. If you liked that Milk Music record I think you’ll be into this – highly recommended if you like a bit of dirty, indie rock.
