Elara - Soundtrack For A Quiet Place - CD (2012)

Labels: Fluttery Records
Review by: MH

Elara come from Italy and play a pretty form of post rock – it’s all shimmering, soaring guitars and synthesizer with a classical influence. The songs are relatively short and melancholy and there are hints of ambient in there too. The opener starts off twinkly and meets a bigger crescendo. The third and final song “Seljalandsfoss” is the most twinkly and also has the biggest sound on here. I looked up the song title and it is a waterfall in Iceland – that idea that post rock is suited to a nature programme soundtrack comes to the fore again. My reference points are quite limited when it comes to this type of music but it is not light years away from Explosions In The Sky although there are less of the quieter breakdowns. I do quite like a bit of instrumental stuff at night sometimes or when I’m reading and this would fit the bill nicely. I’d happily listen to a full length from Elara.
