This is a split 7″ from two French grind bands “” Faxe contribute six songs to their
side and GruntGrunt contribute 10 to theirs. Starting with Faxe’s side, they play fairly
rock-n-roll inspired grind, which doesn’t sound too bad actually. The vocals sound
fierce and the instrumentation is pretty crazy underneath, especially the drums. They
play fairly short songs and only go beyond two minutes once. They are fans of decent
guitar work too, as they switch between crazed riffage and more mid-paced dirges
really well. They also sing in English, which I wasn’t expecting. They even have a six
second song, which is strangely called “Stretching Your Anus With A Can’ Between
Friends Doesn’t Make You Gay Part .2″. Not sure what to make of that title, but I’m
sure it’s something I’m not supposed to get! GruntGrunt don’t like song titles, as all
of their songs are titled 01, 02, 03 etc. These guys play much faster grind, with no
song over a minute. It’s quite mathy too and good luck understanding the vocals! This
is pretty madcap grind to be honest. The vocals range from deep growls, to higher
screams and some odd, almost clean cries. The guitars sound ace when not raging and
the drums are as furious as on the first side. I think this will only appeal to the most
ardent grind fans. I quite like it but won’t find myself listening to it on repeat, over
and over.
